Found but Lost but Found is an archival book project based on Demet Iydiogan’s collection of photographs of lost gloves encountered in public spaces. What began with a single glove found in the Paris Metro developed into a shared digital archive: a record of traces of human presence, collected through photographs sent by people who noticed lost gloves in their own surroundings.
The project questions the meaning of being “lost” and “found” by looking at the same object from different perspectives.
For the person who lost a glove, it is their lost glove. For the person who encounters and photographs it, it becomes a found object. The missing half of the pair, however, is only an assumption — the finder never experienced the pair, only the single glove that remained.
We translated this collection of photographs into a physical archive book, allowing the ambiguity of the concept to shape the publication itself. The book was printed and hand-bound using an open-spine binding, leaving its construction visible.
The cover features thermochromic ink that reacts to the heat like warmth of a hand, revealing the title Found but Lost but Found through touch.
The publication becomes another layer of the project: an archive of objects that have left one narrative and entered another, shifting from lost to found through a moment of attention.
